McKinney Place care home has seen two new deaths related to an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak

2 new deaths at care home

An Oliver long-term care home with an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak has seen two new deaths related to the virus since Thursday.

McKinney Place, an Interior Health facility attached to South Okanagan General Hospital, reported the two deaths Friday.

"Sadly, we are reporting two more COVID-19-related deaths at McKinney Place long-term care home in Oliver today. This has been a challenging outbreak for everyone who lives at McKinney, their loved ones, and their staff and physicians who are committed to their care," said Susan Brown, Interior Health president and CEO in an emailed statement.

"On behalf of everyone at Interior Health we send our condolences to the families and caregivers and despite this tragic news, we remain committed to the fight against COVID-19.”

Both of the deceased were residents of the facility. This is the third death associated with the facility, the first being a female resident in her 70s earlier this week

The total number of cases at McKinney remains at 56, with 41 residents and 15 staff having tested positive to date.
