Twelve months of probation were given to an Osoyoos man after he assaulted his ex-wife

Probation for spouse assault

An Osoyoos man has been sentenced to 12 months of probation after assaulting his ex-wife.

Peter Scott Brennan, who is in his mid-40s, appeared in Penticton court Thursday for sentencing on two counts of assault.

Court heard that on April 13, 2019, Osoyoos RCMP were sent to the residence of Brennan’s ex-wife after a 911 call came in from her stating she had been assaulted by her ex-husband.

Witnesses said they saw Brennan grab his ex-wife in a ‘bear hug’ and had thrown her to the ground.

Brennan had shown up unannounced that night to her residence and proceeded to get in an argument, which soon turned to violence.

When RCMP showed up, Brennan admitted to the assault.

Brennan apologized to his ex-wife in front of court Thursday, saying “I would like to say I’m sorry to [her] and I’m just hoping that this can all get behind us.”

Judge Michelle Daneliuk sentenced him to 12 months probation.

The conditions include no contact with his ex unless needed for communication about their children.

Another incident of Brennan causing a disturbance, drunkenly trying to fight people in a bar on Jan. 11, 2020, garnered him a fine of $300.

Judge Daneliuk urged Brennan to avoid alcohol in the future, for the sake of himself and his children.
