Dog taken from other province by a Pentictonite reunited with owner thanks to a vet

Dognapped, then reunited

A dog brought to a Penticton vet from another province has had a happy reunion with her rightful owner thanks to a licence.

Penticton Dog Control seized Brandi late last week after an individual brought her in to a local veterinary clinic for a checkup. In a public update about the dog, they relayed the basics of the situation, but withheld some details for the purposes of their file and said they would not be releasing more information.

The person with Brandi told the vet they had found her in another province and decided they wanted to keep her. They said she was a "stray" and had been found wearing "only a collar," so they took her. They had already put a new collar with a new name on.

They showed the vet the original collar, which had a licence on it.

Immediately, the vet contacted Penticton Dog Control who brought Brandi in. Her owner was contacted, who it turned out had reported Brandi missing on June 19.

Brandi's owner drove through two provinces to come get his beloved dog, reuniting with her Sunday.

"We hope that this post helps show the importance of having licence identification or permanent identification on your dog," reads a statement from Penticton Dog Control. "Also, we can't stress enough how important it is to contact your local Animal Control to report a dog you have found."
