PIB Bus Fire

It could have exploded.

A bus went up in flames early Monday morning and fire officials say a full propane tank on board could have caused serious damage.

Just before 4 am, members of the Penticton Indian Band Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call four kilometres west of Shingle Creek.

Fire Chief Barry Phillip says it didn’t take members long to put the blaze out, but it was treated very carefully.

“There was a full propane tank on the bus, so there was a risk of explosion. We are trained to deal with this sort of situation and everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do,” says Phillip.

He says the destruction of the bus is a loss for the property owner.

“He had been working on it for about two years, turning it into an RV which local children played in,” says Phillip.

He says the cause of the fire isn’t known, but is being investigated.
