The Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen is reminding property owners that open air burning season ended April 15.
Residents in fire protection areas of Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Kaleden, Willowbrook and Tulameen have other options in disposing of their yard and wood waste.
The spring curb side yard waste collection program is underway and anyone may take advantage of the year-round free yard waste disposal at their local landfills free of charge, for loads up to 110 pounds.
Separated wood waste, also up to 1100 pounds, is accepted free of charge at the Campbell Mountain and Okanagan Falls Landfills.
Anyone burning during the closed season may receive a fine or be charged with the cost of putting out the fire.
Residents are encouraged to report anyone who is illegally burning by calling Penticton Dispatch at 490-2300 or to report a wildfire at 1-800-663-5555 or 5555 from a cellular phone.
