Wild Ride Leads To Arrests

Two people were arrested over the weekend after leading police on a wild chase through the South Okanagan.

It started in Oliver Friday evening after RCMP noticed a BMW being driving erratically. They followed the car for while, but stopped when they became concerned the chase was becoming a public safety risk.

The chase was resumed near Cawston where a spike belt was used to try and slow the car down. Despite having several tires punctured by the belt, the car drove on its rims along Highway 3 until the driver lost control.

A 23-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both residents of Surrey, were arrested on scene.

The man is facing charges of dangerous driving and breach of probation. The woman is facing charges of possession of stolen property after RCMP determined the car had been stolen from the Surrey area 10 days earlier.

Both will face their charges in Penticton at a later date.
