No To Apex Referendum

Apex Mountain Resort residents have said no to the establishment of a volunteer fire department.

Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen Returning Officer, Tracey Batten, released the un-official results of an area wide referendum late Saturday evening.

Residents were asked to authorize approval for the Regional District to borrow $1.3 million for the creation of the department and annual payments of $220,000.

Residents voted 101-86 against the referendum.

The Apex area is currently under the protection of provincial fire services.
