Penticton youth centre got its whole wish list donated

Donated entire wish list

The Penticton Foundry has received a huge donation of items from local Canadian Tire owners Lorraine and Doug MacMillan, furthering their goal of helping Penticton's youth.

The Foundry offers a wide range of services to local youth including help with mental health, physical health, job searching and simply offering a safe space to connect with peers.

Lorraine MacMillan was thrilled to be able to contribute.

"My husband and I were thinking about how we can help the youth in town, and I heard about the Foundry," MacMillan said. "I asked, 'Is there something I can do?'"

Kim Conroy, the Foundry's manager, sent MacMillan a wish list of items from the facility, ranging from cleaning and cooking equipment to entertainment items for the youth who use the centre like smart TVs, hockey sticks and nets, and wireless speakers.

Little did Conroy know the whole list was about to be checked off.

"We provided everything," MacMillan said.

Conroy was blown away by the donation, and the mood in the room was jubilant when the donations arrived Wednesday afternoon.

MacMillan said she hadn't previously been familiar with the Foundry, and hopes this story will help spread the word in the community about the services they offer.

"I was just amazed. I had no idea," she said.
