International Representation

Penticton is going to be represented on an international stage.

Resident Suzanne Martin will be competing for Okanagan College at the Dictee des Ameriques, an international orthography competition taking place in Quebec this weekend.

The contest requires contestants to transcribe complex French paragraphs after listening to them. They are marked on spelling, grammar and accuracy.

Martin, 50, is a mother of three and a full-time OC student in Penticton.

She says the nuances of the French language make this a very difficult competition.

Martin says she is up to the challenge because she has only recently started writing English.

Over 130 people representing 35 countries will be taking part in the Dictee des Ameriques in five different categories.
