Oliver House Fire

Fire destroyed a home in Oliver over the weekend.

Just before 8:30 pm Sunday, flames broke out at a cabin on Road 19 near highway 97 South.

Fire Chief, Dave Janzen, says the cabin was completely destroyed, and the situation could have been worse.

“It was a very windy night and there were several other buildings nearby. The flames could have very easily jumped from one structure to another. We were able to get the fire out before that happened,” says Janzen.

He says the fire was likely started accidentally.

“At this point, we believe the fire was started when someone spilled oil on top of a stove while cooking,” says Janzen.

He says one man was home when the fire broke out, but he wasn't hurt.
