Hwy 97 crash between car, transport truck left one dead

One dead in Hwy 97 crash

UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.

The crash that closed Highway 97 near Summerland for hours Thursday afternoon took a life.

"RCMP determined a southbound vehicle had lost control and was hit by a northbound transport truck," RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov told Castanet.

"The passenger in the car died at the scene and the driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries."

The truck went off an embankment, but the driver was able to escape relatively unharmed.

Halskov said that currently there is "nothing criminal in nature" about the incident that the RCMP can see, and said the tragedy may have had to do with "a bit of speed and road conditions."
