A sailboat off Summerland is listing badly, covered in ice

Sailboat slowly sinking

The latest storm to hit the Okanagan has left one sailboat moored off the shore of Summerland in jeopardy.

Denise Egan took photos of the sailboat listing badly on its side with serious ice beginning to build up at the waterline.

"It would be nice to get in touch with the owner. They probably have no clue," said Egan. "It looks closer to shore, maybe it let go a little bit last night."

Egan says she's seen the boat moored off Gartrell Point in Summerland for years now, but she doesn't know the owner.

"The waves crashing onto it is starting to create some serious ice, and it is not in good shape," she said.

Environment Canada is calling for at least a couple more nights of bitter cold, and the wind is expected to continue to blow out of the north at 20 km/h for the next two days as well.
