Salvage Kelowna Bridge

A Penticton man doesn't want the Okanagan Lake Bridge flotation pontoons to be sunk.

Paul Geldreich says the pontoons could be turned into a one-of-a-kind promenade near the S.S. Sicamous.

He says there are many ways the pontoons, which are over 60 metres long, could be used in Penticton.

Geldreich says they could also be used as a viewing section during Ironman, or to cordon off a portion of Okanagan Lake to create an underwater marina park for scuba divers.

General manager of the S.S. Sicamous Restoration Society, Alexa La Madrid, says they can't go ahead on any ideas without financial assistance and direction from the city, which owns the land the boat sits on.

Officials for the company responsible for the Okanagan Lake Bridge says they are open to any idea which involves recycling the old pontoons.
