Cat abused, hurt but learning to trust again

Survival after abuse, neglect

Chelsea Powrie

Cooper the cat arrived at Critteraid Animal Sanctuary terrified and aggressive due to abuse in a former foster home.

"When he first came in, his fear was so high that he was stalking us, and he didn't have a safe point," animal director Jess Byer said.

Through love and patience, Cooper has become affectionate again, looking for a forever home.

Unfortunately, the abuse came at the hands of a man, and Cooper still reacts strongly to male energy. He also is deeply afraid of shoes and loud noises, which were also part of the abuse.

Byer hopes that the right person will come along, preferably a single female with experience with cats, so that Cooper can find his happy home.

"And really teach him that he's safe and noone's going to hurt him," Byer said.
