U.S. lawyer allegedly tried to smuggle AR15, handgun into Canada

Lawyer arrested with AR15

An American lawyer is facing several charges for allegedly attempting to smuggle a pair of restricted firearms into Canada at the Osoyoos border crossing.

Shawn Bertram Jensen, 59, was scheduled for a brief appearance in Penticton court Wednesday on six Criminal and two Customs Act charges.

According to court documents, Jensen allegedly attempted to smuggle a Colt AR15 SP1 rifle and Ruger .22 handgun into Canada at Osoyoos on Oct. 25.

The Criminal counts allege the handgun was loaded at the time, while the rifle was unloaded but was stored with readily available ammunition and over capacity magazines.

Jensen is a practising lawyer based in Wenatchee Wash., admitted to the state bar in 1988. The Washington State Bar Association lists him as a solo-practice lawyer that will take on a wide variety of cases, including criminal, contract, probate law and more.

When contacted for comment, Jensen deferred comment to his Canadian lawyer, who did not respond to inquiries by deadline.

Jensen returns to Penticton court on Jan. 22 for an arraignment hearing.

The Canadian Border Services Agency typically does not comment on matters before the courts.
