Annual Penticton Toys for Tots to Teens another huge success

Toys for plenty of needy kids

Chelsea Powrie

It was another successful year for the annual Penticton Toys for Tots to Teens charitable toy drive.

On Thursday morning, donations for kids in need aged 0-18 poured in to Penticton Secondary School, in the hope that all children in the community will have something special under the tree this holiday season.

Rotary and student volunteers ran the show, sorting the hundreds of new toys into age groups.

Donors of all ages, including kids from local elementary schools, brought gifts and got a free breakfast sandwich. Santa Claus made the rounds spreading holiday cheer, kids decorated cookies, adults enjoyed a hot coffee and everyone enjoyed entertainment from kids' choirs.

The event was sponsored by Gateway Casinos, Tim Hortons, Superstore, Canadian Tire, Penticton Rotary and Gordon Food Services.

Donations are still being counted, but if past years are an indication, well over 1,000 toys were collected.

If you missed the breakfast, you can still donate new, unwrapped toys, gift certificates or cash at Castanet Penticton or Canadian Tire Penticton until the end of day Thursday.
