A film set took over the historic Kaleden Hotel

Film set at historic hotel

Thursday was an unusually busy day at the historic Kaleden Hotel, with film crews descending on the building and turning it into the set of an upcoming motion picture.

The heritage site will be featured in "Chained," an upcoming psychological drama from director Titus Heckel.

"It's about a kid who keeps an adult man in captivity," Heckel explained. "It's got kind of a darker premise, but it's really a film about masculinity, and about what it means to be a man."

He said he has been thrilled with his time shooting in the Okanagan, and especially with the Kaleden Hotel.

The spot was perfect for a particular set in the film.

"It's supposed to be this special place where this boy has this garden that he has built in this urban area," Heckel said.

The interior of the hotel's frame, long since uninhabited, was dressed up with set pieces and multiple scenes were shot inside.

Heckel said the movie does not have an official release date yet, but they expect to begin screening it at festivals sometime in 2020.

Kaleden is the only South Okanagan location for the film, with the rest being shot in the Kelowna area.
