Annual ALERT fundraiser bake sale returns later this month

'Cookie Walk' is back

The Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT) is preparing for its 17th annual “Cookie Walk” at the Penticton Lakeside Resort on Dec. 14.

The bake sale sees trays of cookies out for sale in the lobby of the hotel, with customers encouraged to bring their own containers.

“Then they methodically walk the long table, picking out the cookies that they want to serve over the holidays.  It is intense. The best part, is that the customers pretend they made them,” the event announcement says.

Cookies are weighed and sold for $8 a pound. The event typically draws large crowds.

Proceeds go to help ALERT with their response efforts in the South and Central Okanagan. The team helps evacuate and shelter animals during disasters such as floods and fire.

This year, there will also be a table set up specifically for dog cookies.

The sale takes place at 10 a.m. on Dec. 14.
