Dropping temperatures could be fatal to animals

Dropping temperatures could be lethal to stray animals, and Critteraid Animal Sanctuary is already fielding calls about abandoned kittens that could easily be killed by the cold if left alone. 

"That's really alarming for us," said Critteraid animal director Jess Byer. 

She said getting calls in November about animals on the street, especially young ones, raises a lot of concerns.

"Harsher weather means it's harder to find food, harder to find places to stay warm and safe," Byer explained.  

"For a kitten, it's really more lethal at night for them. They don't have the body mass to handle minus weather."

The shelter is looking for donations from the public to help deal with the onslaught of rescues ahead of the cold season. 

"So that this winter, we can make sure nobody is left outside, and we have the funding to continue doing so," Byer said.
