Winery gives proceeds from tastings to birds of prey rescues

Wine tastings help raptors

An Okanagan Falls winery collected thousands of dollars in donations over their summer tasting season to be given to the SORCO raptor rehab centre for birds of prey, located down the highway in Oliver.

Stag's Hollow winery's tasting room collected $6,500 in donations in lieu of tasting fees throughout the season, and presented the cheque to SORCO this week.

"As manager of SORCO I would like to thank Linda, Larry and the entire Stag’s Hollow team for the very generous donation they collected," said SORCO manager Dale Belvedere.

Linda Pruegger, one of the founders and the manager of Stag's Hollow, said they have made a practice of donating their tasting fees to community operations for years.

"SORCO could not be more local, being only seven kilometres from Stag’s Hollow. As these birds of prey are a key part of a healthy ecosystem in vineyards and surrounding areas, this relationship is a great fit,” Pruegger explained.

SORCO Raptor Rehab Centre was registered as a not for profit society in 1988, and relies entirely on public donations, grants, foundations and support from companies.
