Osoyoos is spending $190K on a new beach cleaner

New beach cleaner for town

Osoyoos town council has approved the purchase of a new beach cleaner.

Council signed off on the purchase of a $190,000 Cherrington 5500, to replace the municipality’s 2008 BeachTech Marina, which has started to break down.

“Breakdowns have resulted in inconsistent service levels to the areas in which the town cleans resulting in beach areas not being as clean as we seek to keep them,” Director of operational services Jared Brounstein said in his report to council.

The purchase of the machine will be paid off over three years. It will be ordered this fall to ensure its delivery for the spring.

Council noted that some of the local motels declined to pitch-in for the purchase of the beach cleaner, despite having their beaches maintained by it. The cleaner’s routes and maintenance schedules will be reevaluated once it arrives in the spring, council heard.
