Stolen vehicles have been showing up on the KVR trail recently

KVR a stolen car dump spot

The unmaintained section of the KVR trail through West Bench and the Penticton Indian Band reserve has become a dumping ground for stolen vehicles recently.

A stolen SUV was removed from the trail with the help of Penticton Towing Sunday morning, a process that took “some effort” according to Const. James Grandy.

“This area appears to be a common place stolen vehicles are dumped,” Grandy said. “Our First Nations Policing officers are aware of this issue, and actively patrol this area.”

The section of the KVR has fallen into significant disrepair in recent years, with numerous large sinkholes.

The transfer of ownership of the rail corridor has been stuck in limbo for some time now. CP Rail agreed to hand the land over to the PIB in 2016, but it appears that hasn’t actually taken place yet, which means local governments can't step in to maintain the trail.
