A crash and snow marred Hwy 3 south of Princeton

Nasty crash in hwy snow

Snowfall hit Southern B.C. travellers hard Tuesday, with reports coming in that a crash south of Princeton on Highway 3 has caused delays.

Sandra Herd had just passed Manning Park in steadily falling snow and was in a cell service dead zone Tuesday around noon.

"I heard a huge crash," she said, and came around a bend in the road to see a black car that appeared to have been involved in a crash with a nearby snow plow and spun out. "[Debris] was everywhere."

Herd pulled over, and flagged down another passing driver, asking them to continue forward until they reached cell service and could call 911.

She spoke to the single occupant of the car, a man who had a gash on his head but was up and walking around.

"I couldn't believe it, based on the state the car was in," she said, adding she herself had been worried about slipping off the road during the drive due to the weather conditions.

Herd and other drivers who pulled over worked together to clear the road of parts of the car, as snow kept falling. After ensuring the man was alright, she continued, only to find more stoppages further up the highway south of Princeton.

She described sluggish traffic in both directions about 30 kilometres outside of Princeton, and crews with flashing lights on scene spreading salt to help a stuck truck make it up a hill, blocking the Vancouver-bound lane.
