South Okanagan voters in both federal ridings will get another chance to meet and hear from candidates during a pair of forums this week in Penticton and Summerland.
The Penticton Chamber of Commerce is hosting an all candidates forum on Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Seniors Drop-In Centre.
“This year, we are focusing on the Canadian Chamber’s ‘Vote Prosperity’ platform – prosperity for businesses in Penticton, in B.C. and in Canada,” the Chamber says. “Vote Prosperity reflects the priorities and concerns of job creators by laying out seven priorities, along with a series of specific measures to attract investment in Canada.”
The session will open with a round of “speed dating,” where individual candidates will move from table to table meeting with voters. A more traditional panel session will follow.
Candidates in the South Okanagan West Kootenay riding — which spans from Penticton to the border and east to Castlegar — includes: NDP Richard Cannings (incumbent), Liberal Connie Denesiuk, Conservative Helena Konanz, Green Party Tara Howse and PPC Sean Taylor.
Attendance is free for chamber members and $5 for non-members.
On the same night, the Summerland Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidates debate at the Centre Stage Theatre from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.).
Summerland is within the Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola riding, which spans Summerland to Kelowna and west. Running for election are: incumbent Conservative Dan Albas, NDP Joan Phillip, Liberal Mary Ann Murphy, Green Robert Mellalieu and PPC Alan Duncan.
The candidates will be given some questions in advance, while some other questions will be taken from the audience after review from a three-person panel. Attendance is free.
