No shooter at hospital

A rumour that has spread like wildfire on social media that there is an active shooter at Penticton Regional hospital is false.

Castanet spoke with the hospital, and confirmed everything is quiet and safe inside.

The hospital is on lockdown as a precautionary measure following an armed carjacking earlier Thursday on Eastside Road, the suspect in which is the subject of a police manhunt.

The hospital says they are being flooded with calls, and asks the public not to call anymore, as there is no reason for alarm. The lockdown is merely to keep them safe on the off chance the armed man were in the area and tried to get in.

In a separate statement to Castanet, an Interior Health spokesperson confirmed the "enhanced security processes" underway at the hospital are "purely a precautionary measure, as there has been no direct threat or identified risk to our facilities."
