Focus on cocktails

Penticton's newest bar and restaurant is looking to focus on the cocktail crowd, with a large streetside patio and extensive drink menu.

Black Antler opened its doors Saturday on Winnipeg Street just off Westminster. Owner Dan Prokosh said he is excited to be part of the newly vibrant downtown scene for both day life and night life.

"We love that we're surrounded by wineries and breweries," Prokosh said. "This being the new entertainment district, it creates that foot traffic. I just think we have something for everyone here, something a little different from what everyone else is offering."

They have a 28-drink cocktail menu at the moment, with "many, many more to come." The setup features a huge patio and a rustic, upscale-casual interior.

"It's kind of like a twisted farmhouse-noir," Prokosh said. "A lounge-y feel, but we have the wood to warm it up to make it a little more inviting."

Prokosh comes to the Okanagan from what he calls the "hustle and bustle" of Vancouver, where he operated two bars in Gastown. He and his wife are looking forward to a slower pace.

"The Okanagan has so much to offer, especially from a weather standpoint," he said.

They are working on getting live music and dancing going at the location as well.
