Accused quadruple murderer John Brittain will soon have a date set for a preliminary inquiry.
He was represented in court Wednesday morning by his counsel, who had come to an agreement with Crown counsel that they anticipate five days will be enough for the inquiry. At that time, a judge will decide whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. The inquiry also allows the defence to explore the case.
The contents of the preliminary inquiry will be covered under a publication ban.
Nine witnesses will be called, including a police officer.
Brittain did not appear via video from custody. Friends and family of his alleged victims, Susan and Barry Wonch, Rudi Winter and Darlene Knippelberg who were all shot to death on April 15, filled the courtroom as they have at each of Brittain's court dates.
Police say Brittain turned himself in at the Penticton RCMP station following the shootings.
A start date for the preliminary inquiry will be decided on Aug. 21.
