An argument with a WorkSafeBC officer has cost a Penticton convenience store $5,000.
WorkSafeBC has penalized Imraj Holding Enterprises, the owner of the 24Main Convenience Store at 702 Main Street, following a visit by an officer earlier this year.
“A WorkSafeBC officer visited this firm's worksite as a follow-up to a previous inspection,” reads a penalty summary online. “During the visit, a representative of the firm became verbally abusive and threatening toward the officer, and the officer was unable to complete the inspection.”
WorkSafeBC says the company has been fined $5,000 for “hindering, obstructing, or interfering with an officer in the performance of functions and duties under the Workers Compensation Act.”
The store's ownership also refused to attend a meeting with WorkSafeBC to “answer questions related to this incident.”
The fine was imposed on June 12. WorkSafeBC's website indicates no appeal to the penalty has been filed at this point.
The 24Main store that was penalized is unaffiliated with the 24-Seven chain that operates shops at 1090 Westminster, 1675 Fairview Rd. and outside Penticton.
