Pervert lifeguard guilty plea

A former longtime Summerland lifeguard has pleaded guilty to four child pornography and sexual offences involving minors.

Edward Casavant, 54, also known as “Eddy Spaghetti” appeared in Penticton court Thursday, pleading guilty to secretly recording nude children, creation of child pornography, possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation/touching of a person with a disability he was in a position of trust with.

The voyeurism charge is the oldest, dating back to 2008. The sexual touching and production of child pornography occurred between 2012 and 2014 while the possession of child pornography is dated in 2018. Some of the offences occurred at the Summerland Aquatic Centre.

The circumstances of the crimes were not discussed in court Thursday, with the judge simply accepting the pleas and ordering a pre-sentence report with a psychological component.

Casavant was employed with the District of Summerland as a lifeguard and aquatic centre supervisor for over 30 years until the police opened an investigation into him in November 2018. He was arrested and charged with 10 counts in May and has remained in custody since.

He returns to court August 25 to confirm the completion of the pre-sentence report.
