Police seize suspect truck

The Penticton RCMP says it has seized the vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run Sunday morning at Skaha Lake Park.

Police received multiple 911 calls Sunday at 4:25 a.m. from residents who reported screams coming from the area of the 200 block of Elm Avenue, which fronts onto the park.

Officers arrived to find an alert male with serious lower-body injuries.

Police were told the alleged victim was cycling when he was struck by a red Dodge dually pickup, that had veered off the roadway and onto the grass. The truck then fled eastbound towards South Main Street.

“As a result of the continued investigation, police have since recovered a vehicle they believe to be involved in the hit and run, which is being considered an isolated event at this time,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“A collision analyst and reconstructionist examined the scene, while forensic specialists are expected to examine the suspect vehicle, as police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
