Unusual Rescue

It was an unusual rescue for Penticton firefighters.

Just before 11:30 pm on Friday, firefighters were called to the old Penticton Skate Park on Warren Avenue to help pull three people out of one of the big cement skate bowls.

Fire Chief Wayne Williams says three men, one adult and two youths, were stuck at the bottom of one of the big bowls used by skateboarders and bikers.

"They were just looking around the area and when they got to the bottom they realized the ice on the sides of the bowl made it impossible to climb back out," says Williams.

He says one of the youths called for help on a cell phone.

"When firefighters arrived, they lowered a ladder to the men and they were able to climb up it," says Williams.

He says none of the three were injured, but were very cold when they finally got out of the bowl.
