Top Stolen Vehicles

ICBC has released a list of the top stolen vehicles in the Southern Interior and Ford F350 trucks have topped the list again.

ICBC spokesperson, Ryan Detwiller, says the trucks have been the most frequently stolen vehicles in our area over the last five years.

"We've been seeing a shift in the type of vehicle being stolen. With the exception of the F350, it's usually not the newer cars that people expect to be stolen going missing, it's the older ones - often mid or lower-end and without any sort of anti-theft devices," says Detwiller.

He says unlike most new vehicles, the F350 doesn't come equipped with an electronic immobilizer, making them a popular target for thieves.

Detwiller says even though 90% of vehicles stolen in BC are eventually found, the experience often leaves owners scrambling, with the average cost of a theft claim in this area being about $5,000.

On an average day in BC, 57 vehicles are stolen, 86 vehicles are broken into and 73 vehicles are vandalized.
