Trash fire at Tickleberry's

An early-morning fire in the dumpster by Tickleberry's ice cream shop in Okanagan Falls was likely caused by an improperly discarded cigarette butt. 

Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department chief Rob Oliver said crews were called by a maintenance worker at the facility for reports of smoke coming from the dumpster. 

"It may have been a discarded cigarette or something," Oliver said, adding there was no suspicion of foul play. 

Crews were able to get the fire out within 10 minutes. 

He said cigarettes should always be disposed of in separate containers that are not combustible. 

Overall, he was happy it was a fairly low-key event. 

"Other than getting up at 4 o'clock in the morning," he said with a chuckle.
