Furry friends in MS Walk

It was a dog’s life at the MS Walk at Skaha Lake Park Sunday morning.

Even though it wasn’t meant to be a walk with your dogs, dozens of four-legged friends joined their owners for the successful MS Walk in the park.

“We said it was a dog friendly walk but we didn’t know so many dogs would turn out. It’s great to see. I brought my dog Luna too,” said event coordinator Sierra Deverill.

Around 50 people came out to participate in the 2 or 5 km walk, which is up from last year.

“It’s been a great day. Penticton is so awesome for support. We asked Safeway and Timmies and many others and they are always happy to donate,” said Deverill.

The walk was followed up with a barbecue and activities for the kids. The beautiful voices of Brent Tyler and Aidan and Mandy capped off the great day.

“We were so fortunate to have Brent and Aidan and Mandy play our fundraiser. They sound amazing,” she said.

The goal from the Penticton walk was to raise around $20,000.  The funds raised go to research and empower people with MS to live their best lives.

Canada has the highest rate of Multiple Sclerosis in the world. It isn’t known why. One Canadian a day is diagnosed with MS.

Over 77,000 Canadians live with MS. Women are three times more likely to be diagnosed. MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada.

There is no cure yet for this disease.
