Lifeguard bail delayed

A longtime Summerland lifeguard facing child sex crime and pornography charges remains behind bars, after his bail hearing Friday was postponed.

Online court records show Edward Casavant, 54, will appear again in court Wednesday to fix-a-date for a bail hearing. He appeared briefly Friday, but records indicate his lawyer requested an adjournment.

Casavant, who also went by “Eddie Spaghetti,” faces 10 counts for incidents alleged to have occurred between 2008 and 2014, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a person with a disability, sexual interference under 16 as well as making, distribution, accessing and possessing child pornography.

Casavant worked for the District of Summerland as a lifeguard and aquatic centre supervisor for over 30 years until his retirement in late 2018, around the same time police started investigating him.

“While we have identified at least two victims, we strongly believe there are additional victims who may not have already reported, or may not be aware they are a victim,” said police Thursday when they announced his arrest.
