Richter Creek fire 400 ha

Crews will remain on site overnight and additional firefighters will be onsite Wednesday. The number of resources dedicated to the fire will continue to increase over the coming days.

The Richter Creek wildfire continues to burn out-of-control in a sparsely populated area about 12 kilometres west of Osoyoos along Highway 3.

At least 40 members of the B.C. Wildfire Service are being supported by a pair of helicopters. As of Tuesday afternoon, the blaze had burned 400 hectares.

Castanet photographer Mike Biden visited the fire site Tuesday and captured scenes of active flame chewing through dried grass and pine needles just off the highway.

It appears B.C. Wildfire crews are focusing most of their efforts along the northern and western flanks of the fire. Highway 3, meanwhile, remains open to traffic.
