Ellis on the Rise returning

Kick off the summer season with a block party in downtown Penticton, less than two weeks away.

On Friday, May 24, the annual Ellis on the Rise event will shut down Ellis Street for a free, family-friendly extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Ellis on the Rise brings a special Ellis Street vibe to our first big street party that launches us into summer,” said Lynn Allin, executive director of the Downtown Penticton Association. “The Ellis Street businesses are really engaged in the planning and execution of the event and their collective energy is wonderful.”

There will be plenty to do, with a chalk-art zone, face painting, tattoos, colouring station, cupcake decorating and giveaways. Plus, new this year: inflatable jousting for adults and kids alike.

"With foam-tipped lances, jousting promises to be terrific fun for participants… And spectators will have a hoot, too!” Allin said. Kids can also hop on the climbing mountain or hop in the bouncy castle.

Food trucks and a Penticton Fire Department charity barbecue will be on scene, plus a beverage garden featuring drinks from Cannery Brewing and Mile Zero Wine Bar.

Musicians Ari Neufeld, Will Schlackl and Joshua Smith will keep the crowds entertained throughout. Ellis Street from Westminster Avenue to the roundabout will be closed from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. to allow the community to stroll in safety and set up lawn chairs to enjoy the entertainment.

"We look forward to seeing everyone for a fabulous event that celebrates the arrival of summer in Penticton,” Allin said.
