Latest start to golf season

Dust off those golf clubs, the Penticton Golf and Country Club opens for the season Tuesday, the latest start to the season for the course in at least three decades.

“Everyone is very excited to get open,” said PGCC general manager Guy Dow Monday. “The course is in perfect condition — we just cut and rolled all our greens.”

“With this long off season, everyone is really pent up to play, needless to say it’s going to be busy [Tuesday],” he added.

The late winter and snow means Tuesday’s March 26 opening is more than a month later than the typical February 20 open for the PGCC.

Dow says in 30 years with the club, this is by far, the latest start to the season. The course was still under significant snow well into March, with grounds crews working hard to deal with the rapid melt once winter broke.

As of Monday afternoon, Dow said there was still a handful of tee times for opening day, but things are filling up quickly.

“By the weekend if you are interested in playing, definitely get a hold of us, because it’s going to be busy,” he said. “We wish everyone a great season in golf and we are all looking forward to another successful year in the golf industry in the South Okanagan.”

Several other golf courses in the Okanagan, like Nk’Mip in Oliver or Two Eagles in West Kelowna, are already open.
