Rainbow frozen waterfall

Kristy Russell was on her way to her new home in Twin Lakes this weekend when she spotted an unexpected sight on the side of the highway. 

"All the sudden I noticed that there was this waterfall that had frozen and somebody had sprayed it with all these beautiful colours," Russell said. 

Located just south of Kaleden on Highway 3A, the colourful accent delighted Russell, who is new to the area. She decided to post a photo to a local community Facebook group to find out more. 

"I didn't know if it was something that was just random," Russell said, but she soon found out other locals say it's a yearly treat.

Comments poured in saying a Keremeos woman is responsible for the art every year, with one poster claiming she knows the woman, who "gets so much joy from seeing people enjoy this every year."

Nothing was confirmed though, as people speculated about how the art was created. Food colouring? Kool-Aid? A water gun filled with some kind of dye? 

Castanet attempted to reach out to the woman who allegedly creates the art, but found that one commenter on the thread was correct: "She’s elusive like the Easter Bunny."

Russell had been hoping to find out more about the story behind the art too, but she's content knowing she can look forward to seeing it this year and next year. 

"It just makes me happy every time I drive by," she said. "It's so beautiful here already, but that just adds to the beauty."

According to Russell, who has been driving by each day, the colours appear to be growing slightly duller as the weather warms, so time may be running out to check the spot. It's on the left-hand side of the highway when driving southbound, a few minutes outside of Kaleden.
