Local wins gold for B.C.

Brayden Kuroda is only 18, but is already making his mark in the world of freestyle skiing, winning two gold medals for Team B.C. at the 2019 Canada Winter Games this week.

Kuroda is from Penticton, and learned his craft at the Apex Freestyle Ski Club under the watchful eye of his coach and father Kenni Kuroda

He snagged gold in the aerials event on Sunday, and a second gold on Monday in the moguls.

"I did a big cork seven at the top and landed nice in line, which I was struggling with a little bit earlier today, and then I pinned it at the top air and let it fly through the bottom section. As I was going into the bottom air — I didn’t have the greatest bottom air in my first run so I was a little worried about that, I came through with a big, nice back mute and it turned out to be a good run,” said Kuroda.

He didn't have long to celebrate the victory though, as the burgeoning young star headed south of the border Wednesday to Colorado for yet more competitions.
