Highway 97 reopened

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.

A witness of the collision tells Castanet News a young woman was injured in the crash.

A small pickup was turning at the intersection of Highway 97 and Rosedale in Summerland when another vehicle collided with the truck at full speed.

“When they collided it looked like a huge explosion,” the witness said.

The male driver of the pickup reportedly walked away from the crash, but the female passenger was trapped within the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

The woman was conscious but was reporting extreme abdominal and leg pain.

Castanet has reached out to RCMP for comment.


UPDATE: 7:10 p.m.

The crash scene at Highway 97 and Rosedale Avenue has now been cleared.

The highway has completely reopened.


UPDATE: 6:55 p.m.

Emergency crews are clearing the scene of a crash on Highway 97 and Rosedale Avenue in Summerland.

The crash, late Tuesday afternoon, forced the closure of southbound lanes on the highway.

It's unclear how many vehicles were in the crash, however, it is believed a pedestrian was involved.

At least one person needed to be extracted from a vehicle.

It's expected the highway will be completely reopened shortly.

A portion of Highway 97 through Summerland has been closed due to a vehicle collision.

According to DriveBC, southbound lanes of the highway are closed at Rosedale Avenue.

Traffic is being rerouted along Rosedale.

The highway is expected to be reopened early this evening.

Early reports indicate the collision involves a pedestrian who sustained serious injuries in the collision.
