Candle-Light Vigil

A candle-light vigil will take place tonight in Penticton.

The Penticton and Area Women's Centre is holding a vigil in memory of the 14 women gunned down in the Montreal Massacre of 1989.

Acting Executive Director of the Centre, Izobella Nagy, says the vigil is also intended to focus on the issue of violence against women.

"This event is mostly for the memory of those women, but also to bring to everyone's attention that violence against women is still a current issue,"
says Nagy.

She says about 50 people, mostly women, usually come to the annual memorial.

"Women will always come to an event like this, to support other women. I'm hoping this year a few more men will come as well because we need their support as well," says Nagy.

The vigil will take place at the Okanagan College court yard at 7 p.m.
