No Deal Yet For SOEC

The deal still hasn't been signed.

Penticton Mayor, Jake Kimberley, says it could be awhile before the city signs the agreement with Giffels Partnership Solutions for the operation of the South Okanagan Events Centre.

"Several representatives from Giffels are flying into town tomorrow and we will be spending the next couple of days going over details with them," says Kimberley.

He says he had hoped to have the contract signed by the end of November, but realizes that will not happen.

"With a complex deal like this, there are lots of fine details to go over and both sides want to make sure it is done right the first time. I'd hate to have to rebuild the SOEC five years down the road because we rushed the deal," says Kimberley.

He says he is a little disappointed with the continued delays, but is optimistic the deal will be signed.

"I thought we were a little closer to negotiating a settlement back in October than we were, but I'm sure we can move along quickly now," says Kimberley.
