Princeton Protest

They're taking their protest on the road.

Some residents of Princeton will be driving a bus to the office of Environment Minister Barry Penner in Chilliwack.

They are planning to attend an afternoon rally against a coal-fired electrical generating plant proposed for the Princeton area. The plant would be built by Vancouver-based Compliance Energy Corp.

The residents will be bringing with them more than 1,500 letters of protest.

Organizer Brad Hope says some of the protesters' concerns include health issues and environmental impact.

Officials for Compliance Energy say a full environmental review of the project is underway and the Princeton plant would have some of the most advanced combustion technology available for a facility of this size.

The proposed plant would create up to 70 jobs and create yearly revenues of more than $40 million.

A final decision is expected from Penner and Energy Minister Richard Neufeld sometime in 2007.
