Join the volunteer family

Chelsea Powrie

The group of volunteers who work with the Critteraid animal sanctuary in Summerland consider themselves a family, and on Sunday Nov. 18, you have the chance to meet them and find out how you can get involved in helping care for vulnerable animals.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Critteraid Charity Shoppe, located at 13208 Victoria Road downtown in Summerland, volunteers and Critteraid directors will be on hand to talk about the kinds of jobs that are available.

"We're really excited, it's a great day to come down to our shop to find out where you fit into our little family," said animal director Jess Byer.

They have opportunities available to work on maintaining the pastures at the Critteraid farm, working directly with farm animals like the pigs, horses, cows and alpacas on site, helping clean, care for and cuddle their many rescue cats and kittens and manning the cashier at the thrift store.

Volunteers can indicate how often they are available to work, and Critteraid will slot them in. The volunteers are key to making sure Critteraid is a success.

"We never have enough hands on deck," Byer said. "We can't say thank you enough to the ones who do [volunteer.]"

If you can't make the event or you miss it, but would still like to learn more about volunteering, give Byer a call at 250-488-3226 or fill out a volunteer application form here
