Boost for breakfast programs

South Okanagan school breakfast programs received another boost this week.

Neil Jamieson and his team at Underwriters Insurance have fulfilled the breakfast club’s “wish lists.” On top of needing donations of money and food, the programs were seeking supplies such as muffin tins, blenders and toasters.

After reading about the wish lists in a story last month about a cash donation to the program, Jamieson purchased everything on the lists.

“A kid getting a good meal to start the day has proven to increase attendance, improve grades and help with an overall better experience in school. That’s why we wanted to participate, to ensure all kids have the best chance of succeeding in school,” Jamieson said.

“The volunteers work very hard to serve a nutritious meal every weekday, we want to make that process easier for them with items like electric griddles, waffle makers and blenders. It’s a treat for the kids to get hot pancakes and a fruit smoothie in the morning, they look forward to it.”

If you want to volunteer or donate, reach out to the SD67 office in Penticton.
