No injuries in trailer inferno

Rob Gibson

UPDATE 9:45 a.m.

OK Falls fire chief Rob Oliver says there were no injuries as a result of the blaze, which completely levelled the travel trailer and scorched the surrounding yard that was full of debris.

"The trailer was down to the floor. It's going to be a huge mess for someone to clean up," he said.

The sheer amount of junk surrounding the trailer made the fire difficult to fight, Oliver said, explaining propane bottles created a risk of explosion for crews.

He said its possible they may never determine the cause of the fire because of the amount of debris in the yard that also burned. Firefighters managed to contain the fire to that yard.

After being called to the scene at 1 a.m., firefighters were still mopping up the truck by 9:30 a.m.

UPDATE 7:30 a.m.

An early morning fire in OK Falls has destroyed a trailer right off the highway in OK Falls.

Taylor Allum tells Castanet he smelled smoke and ran to see what the cause was when he saw flames and one person trying to control the fire with a garden hose. "When I got there the guy who was in the trailer was out there trying to put the blaze out and I tried to help but there wasn't much we could do."

It appears fire crews managed to save some of the structures adjacent to the trailer including the barber shop and several other trailers in the same area.

Allum says he does not believe anyone else was in the trailer at the time of the fire and the one person he saw fighting the flames was all right after the fire was extinguished.

ORIGINAL 5:46 a.m.

An early morning fire has destroyed a fifth wheel trailer in OK Falls.

Taylor Allum tells Castanet, "I stepped outside and smelt smoke around 1 a.m. early Tuesday morning.  It was a fifth wheel/trailer that was on fire right beside the Ok falls barber shop on Highway 97 passing through OK Falls."

Allum says there were several people on scene trying to put the fire out and they had already called the fire department.

It wasn't long before fire crews arrived on scene to begin battling the blaze.

Emergency crews from OK Falls and then Kaleden were there to assist.

No word on what caused the blaze. The trailer appears to be completely destroyed. It's unclear if there was any further damage as a result of the fire.
