Time change, yes or no?

Chelsea Powrie

It's time to turn the clock backs again this Sunday, and while the practice of Daylight Savings Time has been called into question recently, B.C. Premier John Horgan has said he will not be pursuing changes to the current system.

That led Castanet to hit the streets and ask Okanagan citizens how they feel about the time change.

"Not a fan of Daylight Savings, and I really wish the province would just get rid of it, I think that would be a great idea," said one woman.

"Maybe Canada could just be uniform, either we all do it, or no one does it," agreed her friend.

"Other communities don't change their clock backs and, you know, they survive, so I think that's something we should look at for the future," said another woman.

Communities that don't observe the Daylight Savings change include most of Saskatchewan, some areas in northeastern B.C. and some pockets of Quebec and Ontario.

Some others polled expressed indifference and even support for the policy.

'It's good in the wintertime, when you can get up a little bit earlier and still have some daylight and go from there," one man said.

"I like it! I like that right now it's dark in the morning, so then it gets light, it's a change, it's different," a young woman said.

Regardless of your personal opinion, the clocks will turn back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. If you would like to share your thoughts on the matter, send us a message at [email protected]
