Christmas craft show returns

For the 22nd year running, the Okanagan Makers Christmas Craft Fair and Sustainable Living Show will take place in Penticton, taking over the Trade and Convention Centre this weekend.

Over 160 vendors from all around B.C. will be offering unique handmade crafts and local food products at what organizer Laurel Burnham says she expects to be one of the best versions of the fair she has ever put on.

"It's going to be an absolute blockbuster of a show," Burnham said. "We have a huge range of vendors, it's going to be a great big happy event."

Burnham sees it as the unofficial start of the Christmas season in town, and said there will be plenty of Christmas decorations, gifts and treats on hand.

"There's one vendor that comes from Keremeos, with just the most delicious sugar cookies in all shapes, they just fly off the shelves," she said.

Other vendors will have a world of options to choose from, like art deco stained glass for the home, essential oils, vegan cheeses, bamboo utensils, jewellery and plenty more.

All of the vendors contribute items for door prizes, that Burnham said will be drawn throughout the day. Winners are called out, and get to choose three items from the wealth of options.

"It's a really exciting way to do it, rather than winners just getting a random bunch of products they don't necessarily have any use for," Burnham said.

Around 6,000 people are expected to attend, with proceeds going toward organizations like Penticton Discovery House, Ooknakane Friendship Centre and the South Okanagan Brain Injury Society.

Admission is $4, and kids under 12 can attend for free. The event runs Nov. 3 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m., and Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
