PIB planning 'super park'

The Penticton Indian Band is in talks with one of the founders of the Area 27 private speedway to build an “adrenaline super park” on PIB land.

The First Nation says it is currently conducting due diligence and community consultation on a partnership between itself and Avion Developments Inc. for the construction of a family oriented action adventure park that will feature a “sky chair with walking and nature trails… ziplines, a mountain coaster, a waterpark, and a multi-level mountain bike terrain park showcasing cultural heritage and environmental stewardship.”

The proposed project would also include a motorsports centre, asphalt oval, road course, go-kart track, and an off-road vehicle thrill park. A concert stage, bull riding event centre, RV Park, tenting facility and “park village” of shops and restaurants would aim to “provide a complete on-site experience.”

Avion Developments is fronted by Trevor Seibert, one of four original founders of the Area 27 Speedway in Oliver. The PIB park proposal is a completely unaffiliated with Area 27.

In a news release, Chief Chad Eneas said he is excited about the opportunity for economic development, emphatically stating that the plan will be completed in true partnership with the band.

PIB Economic Development Corporation CEO Jonathan Baynes called the idea “an opportunity for creating economic prosperity across multiple generations and ensuring a legacy for economic growth.”

Without specifying the exact location, the band says it will use “unutilized land” in an attempt to build community pride, and extend the tourist season in the South Okanagan while creating jobs and business opportunities for the PIB and surrounding area.

The First Nation declined the release any further details, renders or sketches on the massive project — until they have gone through consultation with band members.
